Life does not always gives you what you deserve, but undoubtedly it gives you what you fight for. Every man was born with an ability to fight, but only that we fight in different ways. Be prepared to fight, only dreams and visions of a man that can fight manifest into reality.
Possess Knowledge.
The knowledge of the weapon you have is the utmost singular important thing in any fight you engage in. The bible says in1 Samuel 17 vs 39, “David said to Saul I cannot go with your amour and sword because I have not proved them.” This was Saul giving David weapons to fight Goliath, but David refused them, not because of any fault they had, but because he did not know how to use them. He mastered this one fundamental concept of fighting, that you cannot use a weapon that you do not have knowledge of and expect to win. No matter how sophisticated your weapon is, without knowledge on how to use, it is as useless as the one without a weapon. Thereafter, David took smooth stones and a sling. He refused a better weapon and asked for a sling. He understood that the value of a weapon does not lie in its size or complexity. Rather, it lies in the knowledge and experience one has over the weapon he holds. Sometimes it’s not about the complexity of your college degree, or any other courses you may possess. It is all about having enough knowledge on how one can translate the little they have into greater heights. What is the use of boasting that you have 10 college degrees, but you have not been able to use them to achieve your goals? It’s like a man who carries a complex weapon but has not yet mastered its use to the point of using it to gain himself victories. David killed Goliath with ordinary stones, sometimes what we lack are not stones, but the revelation of what the stones can do for us. In our midst, they are resources that have been provided by God, to help us advance our goals, but in most cases, we lack the revelations of turning the ordinary things we have into mighty instruments of war. We lack the ability to identify the stones i.e., ordinary things around us and use them to our advantage. We cry about little money, our problem has not been little money but little knowledge.
Encourage Yourself.
When David wanted to fight Goliath, his brother Eliab discouraged him. 1 Samuel 17 vs 28 says, When Eliab, David’s oldest brother, heard him speaking with the men, he burned with anger at him and asked, “Why have you come down here? And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the battle.” David was discouraged by his brother and the chief reason was because the Eliab’s knew the enemy (Goliath) so much to the extent that they think he is undefeated. Have you ever talked about your dreams to your friends, and they say to you “Hey stop being over ambitious?” Yes. Those are the Eliab’s I am talking about. They have lost hope, they have made peace with misery and they have accepted what life has given them, they are too old to fight, too tired to try again and too hopeless to think that Goliath can be defeated. Sometimes we fear to fight because we know how much people have tried in the past and failed. We know how many have been defeated by the same thing we are trying to fight; hence our hearts fail. Let us desist from concentrating on how much stronger our enemy is, rather let’s focus on how much stronger our God is. Like David, he knew the height, weight, and experience of Goliath as a warrior, but that did not become his focal point, rather he rested his mind on this very fact that He who promised is faithful enough to fulfil His promise. His will and desire to win was greater than the discouragements surrounding him. Let the desire to achieve our dreams fill our hearts and minds to the extent that doubt, and discouragement will not have any place to occupy. In your course of life, it’s not every time you will have cheerleaders in your endeavors. People are too busy with their lives that they do not have time to watch you fighting let alone encourage you. You must encourage yourself. You must tell yourself you can. The next chapter in 1 Samuel 18 vs 6 says women sang songs, celebrating the success of David. They did not sing before he killed Goliath, they were not even there. They only appeared after he had won the fight. The world is not ready to celebrate and compose songs for failures. This world does not care about failures. If you are not ready to fight, you are not ready to eat. Do not be discouraged.
Rewards.
In 1 Samuel 17 vs 26, David asked the king’s men a very fundamental question, “…What reward will be given to the man who kills Goliath…?” He understood the principle that every man who fights and conquers must get a reward. Do not waste time fighting wars that do not produce any results or gain. So often, we fight for no reason and for no objectives. We must set our objectives. When it comes to fighting, involve yourself in wars that get you worthwhile rewards. Fight wars for your destiny, for your goals. Wars to achieve dreams and visions. Fight wars of value. Do not waste energy on unnecessary battles. You do not need to look back after 10 years and only realise that you were chasing after the wind. Be very calculative and smart in identifying your reward in every fight you engage yourself in. The reward could be money, peace or even a sense of fulfilment, but the key thing is, have you been able to identify the reward in whatever you are chasing now. If you can ask yourself this question and fail to identify the reward, please stop, and go back to the drawing board to identify the Reward.
Conclusion.
There is a way of fighting I love the most. It is called prayer. Psalms 104 vs 21 says, “The lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God.” A lion is one of the strongest animals. It is referred to as the king of the jungle. It is very swift and skilled. Regardless of the physical strength it possesses, it takes time to pray and seek its meat from God. This totally proves that prayer is not for the weak but for everyone who is ready to see results. Before the lion seeks its meat from the forest, it first starts by seeking it from God. It understands that before I fight a battle physically, I should fight it spiritually. Any battle won in the spirit automatically means physical victory is guaranteed. The lion appreciates that if God does not provide, neither will the forest provide. Who among us is as strong as a lion? None! Therefore, let us pray. Proverbs 21 vs 31 says, “The horse is made ready for the battle, but victory rests with the Lord.” The writer is saying that despite people’s plans, ideas and goals, the success of all this does not rest in how well we plan or how powerful our horses are. It rests in the God who grants victory. When we pray, whatever weapon we possess in our hands will become of value to us. Some have degrees in their hands representing their horses and some are involved in projects and that is also their horses, but victory does not depend entirely on that. God grants the actual victory, and how do I connect to this God? I connect through prayer. If we pray, the horses will become useful to us in winning. Hence, prayer turns useless weapons into useful weapons. I encourage all man to pray.
